The Red Chair

The Twincy is a magical place filled with bunches of fun stuff.
Lakes, sure. Art, yup. Skyways, oh yeah.
So it was with some amazement that we here at Twincy discovered a great new iPhone app made especially for those of us who traverse Minneapolis’ skyway system.
Skyway App launched last week on Apple’s App Store - an interactive guide to the confusing maze of hallways, skyways and stairways that connect our offices, shops and restaurants downtown. It’s a great guide for both the uninitiated and the skyway pro. Using the GPS in your iPhone, the Skyway App allows you to find buildings, stores, restaurants, offices and more than 400 locations throughout the skyway. You can drop a pin when you get to your destination and save it to your app, which allows you to find that place more quickly the next time you use the app.

The man pictured above is one half of the Skyway App team. Casey Holley is an IT recruiter by day, a thinking man by night. He and John Haddad came up with the concept for Skyway App last year, then turned it into reality.

Casey and John took their idea to Minneapolis-ex-pat Jane Mitchell, an iPhone developer based on the west coast. She made the programming magic happen, while Casey and John walked every inch of the skyway system mapping locations manually.
Twincy took the app for a test drive with Casey this week and loved the interface, the easy way it helps you find where you’re going, and it’s link to Yelp’s API which allows users to see reviews of restaurants, skyway eateries and more.
The app is currently free in the Apple iTunes Store.
