We’ve noticed something happening around Twincy lately.
Belts have been loosened a notch or two.
Sugar highs have been reported at an irregularly high pace.
Even Twincy::HQ hasn’t escaped the invasion.
Cupcakes. They’re everywhere.
A handful of specialty cupcake shops have opened their doors this past year. And it has us at Twincy wondering…how many more cupcake shops can one town take?
Not that we’re complaining.
Our deep historical research of empirical evidence (yeah, we’re trying to be funny by being redundant) has led us to believe Twincy’s first stand-alone cupcake dispensery was Cupcake on University Ave in St. Paul. A local fave and possibly one of the coolest spots to bike to if you’re an undergrad at the U, Cupcake has made its name with treats like red velvet cupcakes, and double chocolate. Tasty.
Then came Sweets Bakeshop off Marshall Ave in St. Paul. A pair of veterans who talked baking and dreamed of opening their own cupcake shop while overseas, the gals behind Sweets came home, opened their dream shop and coincidentally made the dreams of so many sweet toothed Twincitians come true too.
Then along came Cake Eater Bakery. A punk rock sweets shop, if there ever was one, Cake Eater blends bright colors with punk aesthetic to make some sweet tasting treats and a cool ambience. Oh, and they coffee from Chicago’s famed Intelligentsia roastery.
Now, there are even more. Sweet Retreat Cupcake shop at 50th and France is bringing cake to the cake eaters. Literally. Cocoa & Fig opened in Gaviidae Commons downtown Minneapolis, giving a good rounding out to the new cupcake boutiques in town.
So many sweets. So little time.
Twincy loves cupcakes, it’s true. But who to choose? If there was an epic battle of cupcakedom, who in Twincy would win?
